Control Hazard and Operability Study (CHAZOP) is a methodology to identify hazards associated with the control system. Typically this is undertaken when the control system is upgraded, or additional process units are added to an existing process. Independent facilitation of a CHAZOP will enable the owner of the plant to have confidence that the proposed upgrades will not pose a risk to the reliable operation of the control system. As with the HAZOP, critical to the success of the workshop is getting the right people in the room.
CHAZOP is a systematic approach to identification of Hazard and Operating concerns associated with the Control system. This is typically undertaken during the design stage (60%). Required for the CHAZOP is a detailed Control Narrative and control loops.
